SURTASS Field Support Technician

About the role

Amentum is seeking Field Support Technicians (FSTs) to support the Surveillance Towed Array Sensor System (SURTASS) program, based at JEB Little Creek, Virginia Beach, VA. The position requires domestic and international travel, including short-notice assignments and up to 3-month deployments, and work on ships at sea with rotating shifts and hours exceeding 40 per week. The position is contingent on identifying a candidate whose expertise meets the program's strategic needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support for SURTASS mission systems, including troubleshooting, repairs, testing and system restoration, documented in detailed reports.
• Maintain and repair SURTASS mission equipment and pier-side gear, and log maintenance actions in the JSN/MSC Work Request system.
• Install and test hardware and software, and conduct TL-29A system grooming and module balancing.
• Deliver in-port refresher training to shipboard technicians and keep system records and technical manuals current.
• Be available 24/7 for urgent technical issues and work with O&M crews, technical authorities, government representatives and contractors.

Required profile

• Associate degree in Computer Science, Electronics Technology or a related field with five or more years of experience; additional experience, training or certifications may be considered in lieu of the degree.
• DoD Secret clearance now, with ability to obtain Top Secret upon hire; valid U.S. passport.
• Understanding of COTS maintenance, open architecture and the U.S. Navy Maintenance Material Management System (3M).
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, train shipboard technicians, pass a mariner's physical and hold a valid driver's license.
• Preferred: Navy electronics "C" school or equivalent, and experience maintaining SURTASS arrays (TL-29A, LFA, CLFA, HFM3) and processing subsystems (ICP, UNIX, LINUX, Windows, GCCS-M, GPS, SHF, UHF SATCOM, etc.).
