Supervising Structural Engineer – Wastewater

About the role

Parsons is hiring a Supervising Structural Engineer to join its water/wastewater group in the Los Angeles area. The role provides structural engineering design and construction support for wastewater treatment plant facilities and is based at the client’s office in Playa Del Rey, CA, adjacent to LAX.

Key responsibilities

• Perform structural engineering work supporting design and construction of various wastewater treatment plant facilities in Los Angeles.
• Prepare structural analyses, calculations, design drawings and specifications.
• Review construction documents, interpret plans and specifications, and ensure compliance with codes, safety requirements and contractual obligations.

Required profile

• Degree in Engineering (or related field) with at least 12 years of experience in structural engineering for water/wastewater treatment plants.
• Licensed Civil Engineer in California; Licensed Structural Engineer in California is highly desirable.
• Ability to conduct field inspections of aluminum, steel and concrete structures and to develop technical reports.
• Experience solving structural problems caused by marine environments and galvanic reactions.
• Possession of an ENV SP certification or ability to obtain it within two months of hire.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Revit.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
• Familiarity with Los Angeles Building Code (LABC), International Building Code (IBC), California Building Code (CBC), ASCE, AISC, ACI and OSHA standards.
• Knowledge of corrosion‑mitigation materials such as stainless steel, galvanized steel, aluminum coatings, fiberglass, PVC, polyethylene, T‑Lock concrete lining and cathodic protection.
• Understanding of wastewater treatment processes (headworks, clarifiers, aeration basins, disinfection, anaerobic digestion, RO, membrane bioreactors, solids dewatering, etc.).
