Student Technician – Insect Colony Care

About the role
The primary purpose of this position is to lead the insect colony care that supports ongoing research in our Controlled Environment Agriculture Entomology program. The role also assists staff and graduate students with fieldwork preparation and basic sample preparation and data collection across lab, greenhouse, and high‑tunnel environments. This student‑worker role offers hands‑on experience with a variety of insect species and contributes directly to cutting‑edge research on sustainable agriculture.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the husbandry and maintenance of insect colonies including whiteflies, thrips, aphids, ladybugs, and big‑eyed bugs.
- Assist with preparing supplies and materials for insect experiments.
- Assist with data collection and experiment clean‑up.
- Perform miscellaneous tasks in the lab, greenhouse, or high tunnel as assigned.
Required profile
- Currently enrolled at a community college or university.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail‑oriented with excellent organizational abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
