Student MLS Employee – Blood Bank

About the role

The MLS Student Employee – Blood Bank supports the Blood Bank/Transfusion Services laboratory while gaining hands‑on experience in clinical laboratory science. Under supervision, the student assists with routine blood bank activities, specimen processing, testing, documentation, and maintaining a safe work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with routine blood bank activities, including specimen processing and testing.
• Issue blood components to patient care areas and follow the Massive Transfusion Protocol.
• Communicate with physicians, nurses, and other staff regarding blood product orders.
• Receive and properly label blood samples for the Blood Bank.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current enrollment in a Medical Laboratory Science program.
• Ability to provide direct patient care by supplying appropriate blood components.

Required skills

• Knowledge of blood bank procedures and massive transfusion protocols.
• Ability to handle and label specimens accurately.
