Staff+ Software Engineer – Claude Science

About the role

Anthropic is building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems, and Claude Science is its AI workbench that unifies literature, databases, scientific computing, and publication tools. As a Staff+ Software Engineer you will shape both the product and its architecture in a brand‑new category, accelerating scientific progress across biology, chemistry, physics, and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Ship fast against a roadmap you help shape, tackling high‑leverage problems in a new product category.
• Interface directly with scientists in academic labs, industry R&D, and research institutes, translating their needs into engineering priorities.
• Partner with product and design to turn scientific workflows—from hypothesis to analysis to publication—into shipped features.
• Collaborate with research teams to improve model performance for scientific tasks, shaping evaluations and feeding real‑world feedback into model development.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years at a Staff or equivalent technical leadership level.
• Proven track record of building products from 0 to 1 in fast‑moving environments.
• Experience delivering AI‑driven products and turning model capabilities into usable applications.
• Comfortable working directly with domain experts and translating scientific requirements into technical solutions.
• Ability to drive cross‑team alignment and influence without formal authority.
