Staff+ Research Engineer – RL Data Platform

About the role

Anthropic’s RL Data Platform team builds the systems that collect, process, and serve the human feedback data that powers Claude. As a Staff+ Research Engineer you will own the end‑to‑end development of web interfaces, backend services and data pipelines that enable rapid data collection for reinforcement‑learning experiments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate feedback and data‑collection interfaces for annotators, domain experts and internal researchers.
• Develop and maintain backend services, APIs and pipelines that route model samples to humans and return structured feedback for training.
• Ensure reliability, low latency and high usability of continuously running systems against live model endpoints.
• Collaborate with RL researchers to translate loosely defined data needs into scoped collection campaigns and the tooling to execute them.
• Create dashboards, monitoring and inspection tools so researchers can assess data quality and throughput independently.
• Identify and eliminate bottlenecks between data request and inclusion in the training mix.

Required profile

• Strong full‑stack engineering experience with production‑grade TypeScript/React front‑ends and Python back‑ends.
• Proven ability to design, operate and scale backend services and data pipelines used by multiple teams.
• Track record of owning projects from ambiguous requirements to production deployment.
• Comfort working directly with technical stakeholders whose needs evolve rapidly, and the judgment to push back when appropriate.
• Effective use of AI tools in day‑to‑day work and a concern for the societal impact of your contributions.
