Staff Geotechnical Engineer

About the role

Langan is seeking a Staff Geotechnical Engineer to join its collaborative team in either San Jose, CA or San Francisco, CA. The role focuses on planning and executing field investigations, monitoring foundation and earthwork construction, and preparing detailed geotechnical logs and reports for large‑scale projects.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and conduct field investigations, including logging borings, test pits, sample collection, and field testing.
• Observe and monitor foundation and earthwork construction to ensure compliance with design documents.
• Identify and implement solutions to routine and complex field or laboratory challenges.
• Prepare standard logs, daily field reports, and chain‑of‑custody documentation.
• Conduct site reconnaissance, file reviews, and document searches, communicating any issues to supervisors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 1+ years of relevant experience with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• EIT certification or current registration for the FE exam.
• Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and analytical abilities.
• Willingness to spend the majority of work hours in the field and travel as needed.
