Staff Engineer – Electromechanical Battery Pack Design

About the role

Shield AI is a venture‑backed defense‑tech company developing autonomous systems for aircraft and simulation. The team is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the design of a new electromechanical battery pack, taking the concept through to production while ensuring performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end design of a new battery pack, from concept through production hand‑off.
• Drive optimal performance while managing size, weight, manufacturing constraints, and reliability.
• Perform hands‑on prototyping, testing, qualification, and transition to manufacturing.
• Define requirements, specifications, assembly drawings, and 2D drawings.
• Root‑cause failures and production issues and lead corrective actions.
• Mentor team members, conduct design reviews, and provide program execution leadership.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanics, thermal design, and electronics.
• Proven track record of designing and delivering a battery product to market.
• Proficiency in CAD modeling.
• Experience with various manufacturing processes.
