Staff Embedded Software Engineer, Functional Safety

About the role

Join a joint venture between Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies as a Staff Embedded Software Engineer focused on Functional Safety. You will develop platform‑level software and safety components for electric‑vehicle embedded systems, ensuring compliance with industry safety standards throughout the product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Implement platform‑level embedded software and functional safety components.
• Design and implement software‑level technical safety requirements.
• Represent functional safety in cross‑functional discussions with hardware, mechanical, systems and manufacturing teams.
• Evaluate safety requirements, FMEDA, FTA and DFA against functional safety objectives.
• Develop software for microcontrollers using C and real‑time operating systems.
• Create multi‑threaded and multi‑core embedded software.
• Define verification and validation methods for safety requirements and support hardware testing.
• Document safety requirements, analyses, architecture, implementation, verification and validation activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field.
• 5–7 years of professional experience in functional safety within automotive, aerospace, industrial or equivalent sectors.
• Hands‑on experience with embedded software development, microcontroller‑based systems and RTOS.
• Practical knowledge of ISO 26262:2018 (Parts 5 and 11) or IEC 61508 (Parts 1‑3).
