About the role
The Staff Designer applies creative design skills, computer‑aided design drafting practices, and knowledge of manufacturing techniques to generate solid models, layouts, assemblies and detailed drawings for mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic equipment on ADTECH engineering projects.
Key responsibilities
- Works closely with engineers and senior designers to make drawing corrections and update CAD models in response to redlines.
- Prepares CADD solid models, layout and detail drawings using SolidWorks, applying GD&T for moderately complex equipment.
- Creates original designs for parts and assemblies, ensuring manufacturability, maintainability and proper assembly.
- Mentors and coordinates the work of designers and drafters on projects, and may interface with clients.
- Provides input on resource needs, assists in cost and schedule estimating for bids, and participates in technical working groups.
Required profile
- 10‑15 years of CAD design experience, preferably with an associate degree in design, drafting or related engineering field.
- Formal training and certification in Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks, including Advanced Parts and Assemblies (preferred).
- Working knowledge of Military Standards and ANSI Y14 drafting standards, including GD&T.
- Experience with production phases, CNC machining, sheet‑metal and welding fabrication, structural and electro‑mechanical design.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance and pass a drug test.
Required skills
- SolidWorks solid‑modeling, Routing, Sheet Metal and Weldment modules.
- Product Data Management (PDM) tools.
- Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and ANSI Y14 drafting standards.
- CNC machining, sheet‑metal and welding fabrication processes.
- Structural design and electro‑mechanical packaging.
- Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
