Software Engineer II – Embedded Communications (Onsite, Secret Clearance)

About the role

Collins Aerospace is hiring a Software Engineer II to support the Mission Systems Resilient Connectivity Products organization at the GETC Puerto Rico location. The role involves designing, developing, integrating, testing, and maintaining software solutions for aircraft communication systems, working onsite in Aguadilla, PR.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate and test communications systems for aircraft supporting multiple connectivity methods.
• Collaborate with FPGA, hardware, systems and software teams to embed advanced technology into a wide array of communications products.
• Conduct design, development, integration, implementation, and testing of embedded software in C++, C, Ada and Python on Linux OS.
• Prepare software builds for simulation environments, reference platforms and target hardware.
• Develop embedded test solutions that support hardware qualification activities.
• Participate in formal run‑for‑score and software release activities.
• Investigate root causes of complex issues reported internally or by customers.

Required profile

• Degree in a STEM field (or advanced degree) with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
• Professional proficiency in written and verbal English communication.
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
• Experience with embedded development using object‑oriented design.
• Experience with development toolsets such as Jira, Subversion/Git and version management.

Required skills

• Embedded C/C++ development on Linux.
• Programming in C++, C, Ada and Python.
• Command‑line Linux proficiency and software‑level debugging.
• Version control tools: Git, Bitbucket, Subversion.
• Collaboration tools: Jira, Confluence, Coverity.
• Scripting with Bash and Python.
• Basic knowledge of RF, HF and radio principles.
