Software Development Engineer II – Robotics Software

About the role

Amazon is building the next generation of advanced robotics systems that operate at massive scale. As a Software Development Engineer II you will help create a software framework that enables robots to learn, adapt, and collaborate safely with humans in dynamic environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design critical components of a software framework for generalized dexterous mobile manipulation.
• Develop and integrate cloud‑based and on‑edge inference pipelines.
• Implement low‑latency communication middleware for real‑time teleoperation.
• Create human‑machine interfaces that allow end‑users to program robots without code.
• Build metrics, data aggregation, and validation tools for the software architecture.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to prototype new concepts quickly.
• Document designs, performance results, and validation procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience developing software for robotics or similar complex systems.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to bridge research and production.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and/or C++.
• Experience with robotics middleware such as ROS or Orocos.
• Familiarity with communication layers like DDS, EtherCAT, or LCM.
• Practice of test‑driven development (TDD) in robotics software.
• Knowledge of machine‑learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorRT (preferred).
