Softgoods Engineering Technologist – NASA JETS II Support

About the role

Join Oceaneering as a Softgoods Engineering Technologist supporting NASA’s JETS II contract. You will work in the Drafting and Manufacturing Mechanical Design section, contributing to human spaceflight and deep‑space exploration programs.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and fabricate softgoods articles for manned spaceflight programs, including stowage solutions, structural inflatables, thermal blankets and suit equipment.
• Present design concepts clearly, create patterns, mock‑ups and verify fit and function.
• Maintain, repair and modify sewing machines and other fabrication equipment for unique stitching operations.
• Interpret and review fabrication drawings, ensuring final release for flight‑qualified products.
• Collaborate with engineers and designers to meet system requirements and occasionally travel to other NASA centers for installation.

Required profile

• High school diploma with 5 years experience or a BS in Engineering Technology or related field.
• Minimum 3 years experience in a softgoods lab focusing on design and fabrication.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and ability to pass a government background investigation.
• Physical ability to lift up to 25 lb, work in confined spaces and on ladders.

Required skills

• Hands‑on fabrication using sewing machines, laser cutters, fabric welders, 3D printers, band saws and drills.
• Proficiency with Adobe, AutoCAD and Rhino CAD software.
• Ability to read, interpret and create fabrication drawings for aerospace products.
• Familiarity with NASA/JSC softgoods design and the JETS Engineering Life Cycle processes.
