Senior Technical Director

About the role

The Senior Technical Director provides overall technical direction and quality accountability for multiple global health programs at FHI 360. This senior leader sets technical strategy, allocates resources, and ensures that all deliverables meet the highest standards before reaching donors.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive technical strategy across health pillars, allocating staff time and investment accordingly.
• Provide final technical sign‑off on work plans, deliverables, and normative products.
• Arbitrate cross‑area technical questions, ensuring alignment with current normative guidance.
• Serve as senior technical liaison with the U.S. Department of State, ministries of health, and other normative bodies.
• Lead rapid technical responses for outbreaks, donor‑requested surges, or program challenges.
• Build the evidence base through peer‑reviewed publications, conference presentations, and contributions to normative guidance.
• Offer strategic direction and innovative solutions to complex implementation challenges.

Required profile

• Extensive experience leading technical portfolios in global health or related sectors.
• Proven ability to manage multi‑disciplinary technical teams and drive high‑quality outcomes.
• Strong analytical skills to assess performance and recommend improvements.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement capabilities.
