Senior Software Engineer – Staff/Principal Level

About the role

ClayAI is looking for a senior‑level software engineer with prior staff or principal experience to drive technical strategy, mentor engineers, and deliver complex, high‑impact projects.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute technical strategy across product, platform, AI, security, and developer experience domains.
• Lead ambiguous, large‑scale projects, removing obstacles and influencing cross‑functional teams.
• Mentor and coach engineers, review designs and code, and promote best practices.
• Shape architecture to improve scalability, efficiency, and overall engineering effectiveness.

Required profile

• Demonstrated outsized impact in previous roles, such as building foundational systems or launching revenue‑generating products.
• Experience at startups and scale‑ups with a comfort for rapidly growing scale.
• Strong product intuition and ability to consider cross‑functional impact of technical decisions.
• Empathetic communicator who prioritises curiosity and inclusive dialogue.

Required skills

• Typescript, React, Node.js, Python.
• AWS services: Aurora (Postgres), Elasticache (Redis), Docker, ECR, ECS (Fargate), Lambda, OpenSearch.
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform.
• CI/CD tools: Github, CircleCI, Netlify, Playwright.
• Observability: CloudWatch, Datadog, Mezmo, Grafana.
