Senior Security Engineer - Sec Ops

About the role

Are you a collaborative Sec Ops Engineer looking to work for a mission‑driven global organization? You’ll join Elsevier’s Security Engineering team within the Information Security & Data Protection department, where you will design, build and operate security tooling and platforms that protect the company’s cloud estate.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, architecture and delivery of security platforms and services.
• Own and evolve Infrastructure as Code standards (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) for reliable, secure deployments.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid‑level engineers, including design and code reviews.
• Integrate, tune and manage the lifecycle of core security tooling such as SIEM, EDR, DLP, PAM, WAF, SOAR and vulnerability management solutions.
• Partner with Incident Response, Threat Engineering and GRC to translate threats and compliance requirements into engineering road‑maps.
• Champion AI‑assisted engineering practices (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to improve velocity and code quality.

Required profile

• Significant hands‑on experience in security engineering, designing and operating cloud‑native security platforms at production scale.
• Demonstrated ownership of security architecture in AWS (or OCI/Aliyun) across multi‑account, multi‑region environments.
• Advanced proficiency with Terraform and IaC standards, and experience setting team‑wide patterns.
• Experience building and maintaining secure CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
• Broad experience with security tool categories: SIEM, EDR, DLP, PAM, WAF, SOAR and vulnerability management.
• Proven track record mentoring engineers and leading technical design decisions.
• Strong scripting and software development skills in Python, and experience delivering production services on Kubernetes/EKS.
• Practical experience with AI‑assisted engineering tools and sound judgment on their use.
• Familiarity with Agile and DevOps frameworks and continuous process improvement.

What we offer

• U.S. National Base Pay Range: $78,800 – $131,300, with location‑specific adjustments (New Jersey $93,016 – $148,584).
• Eligibility for an annual incentive bonus.
