Senior Research Engineer – CFD & Multiphysics

About the role

3M is seeking a Senior Research Engineer to lead the development and application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models that advance our material handling, energy transport, and product processes. You will work on‑site in Maplewood, MN, collaborating with global teams of engineers, scientists, and customers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the creation, validation, and deployment of CFD and Multiphysics models to improve fluid flow and heat‑transfer performance.
• Partner with application engineers, formulators, and process engineers to identify optimal design spaces and drive product innovation.
• Support customer simulation engagements, addressing complex fluid‑dynamics challenges.
• Contribute to intellectual‑property analysis and development.
• Participate in cross‑functional teams and global collaborations.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related science (completed before start date).
• Minimum three years of experience in a private, public, government, or military setting.
• At least three years of hands‑on experience with CFD.
