Senior Reporting Accountant

About the role

The Senior Reporting Accountant is a highly technical accounting professional within the University of Miami’s Financial Reporting & Accounting function. The role researches, interprets and applies U.S. GAAP and FASB guidance to complex, non‑routine transactions, and prepares analyses, reconciliations, journal entries and financial statement schedules to support the university’s financial statements and disclosures.

Key responsibilities

• Research and apply U.S. GAAP and ASC standards (e.g., ASC 842, ASC 835, ASC 715) to complex accounting transactions.
• Analyze contracts, agreements and financial arrangements to determine appropriate accounting treatment and disclosure.
• Prepare technical accounting memoranda, position papers, calculations and supporting schedules for management and external auditors.
• Develop and review complex journal entries, reconciliations, roll‑forwards and financial statement schedules.
• Support monthly, quarterly and year‑end close processes and assist in the preparation of the university’s annual financial statements and footnotes.
• Serve as a technical resource during external audits, responding to auditor inquiries and providing documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is a plus.
• Minimum five years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, external audit or related professional roles.
• Experience with large, complex, decentralized organizations such as higher‑education or not‑for‑profit institutions.
