Senior Reporter – Public Radio

About the role

The University of Tulsa’s public radio station KWGS is seeking a Senior Reporter to deliver in‑depth news coverage across Tulsa and beyond. Reporting to the News Director, you will produce feature stories, breaking news, and contribute content to NPR and other outlets.

Key responsibilities

• Gather audio, images, and other assets from meetings, hearings, and press conferences.
• Research, write, and voice‑assign stories for broadcast and the station website, covering both spot news and feature pieces.
• Update the station website and distribute stories via social media.
• Provide original reporting to NPR national newscasts and collaborate with other Oklahoma public radio stations.
• Serve as backup host for Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and other programs as needed.
• Represent KWGS at community events, candidate forums, and fundraising activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field.
• 3–5 years of full‑time reporting experience in radio, TV, digital media, or newspaper.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite.
• Strong verbal communication and on‑air speaking ability.
• Thorough knowledge of journalistic ethics and AP style.
• Experience with at least one content management system.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally and statewide.
