Senior Protection and Control Engineer

About the role

The Senior Protection & Control Engineer will lead the review and validation of protection and control designs for transmission and distribution (T&D) substations, including AC, HVDC and FACTS projects. Working closely with designers, peer engineers and project leaders, the role ensures compliance with specifications and industry standards while mentoring the secondary design team.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve P&C designs prepared by project teams, confirming adherence to project specifications and applicable standards (e.g., IEEE).
• Act as the primary technical authority for the secondary design team, providing guidance and mentorship.
• Represent GE Grid Solutions on external standards committees and stay current with emerging grid technologies.
• Potentially serve as project engineering manager for small‑to‑medium projects focused on secondary engineering.
• Drive technical and economic understanding of market needs to deliver optimal customer solutions.

Required profile

• Established leader with senior‑level experience in protection and control engineering for power grids.
• Strong judgment and ability to operate with moderate autonomy.
• Continuous learning mindset aligned with grid transition requirements.
• Proven ability to influence team priorities and improve quality, efficiency, and effectiveness.

Required skills

• Protection & Control design for T&D substations
• AC, HVDC and FACTS system knowledge
