Senior Product Engineer

About the role

Senior Product Engineer at Sauna, an AI assistant that automates work across the tools you already use. This full‑time, on‑site role is based in the Presidio, San Francisco and requires US work authorization (visa sponsorship possible for exceptional candidates).

Key responsibilities

• Build delegation primitives – hand work to Sauna, track progress, interrupt, approve, and undo tasks ranging from seconds to overnight.
• Create memory‑visible surfaces where users see, correct, and refine what Sauna has learned about them.
• Design routines and apps – let users request custom software, install it, and monitor ongoing routines.
• Enable connected Saunas – shared real‑time sessions where multiple people and a Sauna collaborate.
• Ensure a consistent experience across all surfaces – web, iOS, Slack, email, with seamless onboarding.
• Deliver performance as a feature – a local‑first client that opens instantly on a 10,000‑message history.
• Own the first‑time experience and billing funnel from landing page to paid team.

Required profile

• Shipped complex web products and owned them post‑launch (multiplayer, large‑data, streaming/realtime UIs).
• Strong product taste; can sketch, build, and defend trade‑offs from a rough direction.
• Deep expertise in React – state management, re‑renders, reusable components.
• Comfortable owning full‑stack features end‑to‑end (migration, routing, fetching, UI, analytics).
• Performance‑focused with solid caching, invalidation, and optimistic‑update strategies.
• Attention to craft – loading/empty/error states, keyboard shortcuts, UI polish.
• Heavy AI user in personal workflow with informed opinions on its strengths and limits.
• Autonomous, low‑ego, ships without a spec, iterates quickly, and prefers depth over breadth.
