Senior Mechanical Engineer – Turbomachinery Rotordynamics

About the role

Radiant, a startup developing portable nuclear micro‑reactors, is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer specialized in turbomachinery rotordynamics. The engineer will join the power‑generation team responsible for the design, analysis and testing of high‑speed compressors, turbines and pumps that drive the Kaleidos micro‑reactor.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and test turbomachinery components for the reactor’s power‑generation and primary‑cooling systems.
• Perform dynamic analysis of rotor‑bearing assemblies, including vibration, stability and resonance assessments.
• Conduct critical‑speed, Campbell‑diagram and transient‑operating‑condition analyses to optimise rotor performance.
• Select and evaluate bearing types (rolling‑element, fluid‑film, magnetic) for high‑temperature, high‑speed operation, including load, life and thermal calculations.
• Prepare technical reports, design documentation and presentation materials for internal and external stakeholders.
• Support prototype, first‑article and production hardware build‑up and testing activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in design and analysis of turbomachinery, rotating equipment or similar mechanisms.
• Proven ability to apply rotordynamic principles to real hardware.

Required skills

• Rotordynamic analysis tools such as XLrotor or Dyrobes.
• Critical‑speed and Campbell‑diagram analysis.
• Bearing selection for high‑temperature, high‑speed applications.
• Turbomachinery design and testing.
