Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Seasats deploys unmanned surface vessels (USVs) on multi‑month missions that rely on top‑quality mechanical systems. The mechanical engineering team designs and builds these systems, and we are looking for a senior engineer to remove bottlenecks, execute plans, work with design leadership, and mentor junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design parts and assemblies using CAD tools.
• Work closely with junior engineers to guide their development.
• Assist in timeline and plan creation for projects.
• Shape design and organizational processes within the engineering team.
• Review, detail, and manage configuration of CAD models.
• Design fixtures, tooling, and jigs in CAD.
• Source components and communicate with suppliers.
• Maintain vehicle BOM and evaluate production/procurement options.
• Identify process refinements to increase production efficiency.
• Assemble and perform QA on incoming parts from external suppliers.
• Test new and existing component designs for the vehicles.

Required profile

• 5+ years experience on high‑performance or high‑volume mechanical parts.
• Self‑starter with a get‑stuff‑done attitude.
• Expertise in SolidWorks and CAD modeling.
• Deep understanding of mechanical engineering, structures, assembly, DFM trade‑offs, and fabrication methods.
• Maritime background through work or extensive experience on/around the ocean.
• Knowledge of how manufacturing processes (CNC milling, 3D printing, waterjet, etc.) affect design.
• Experience working in small mechanical engineering teams.
• Ability to turn a napkin sketch into an iterative CAD model.
• Experience outsourcing parts to external vendors/fabricators.
• U.S. person status as defined by export control laws.
