Job description

About the role

Hadron Energy is seeking a Senior/Principal Fluids Engineer to lead the design and analysis of fluid systems for its factory‑produced micro modular reactors. The role can be based in the San Francisco Bay Area or worked remotely, and it offers the chance to apply advanced thermal‑hydraulic expertise to safe, scalable nuclear power solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and size primary, secondary, and auxiliary fluid loops, including pumps, valves, heat exchangers, orifices, and piping networks.
  • Perform single‑phase and two‑phase flow analyses, hydraulic loss calculations, water‑hammer/pressure transient studies, and NPSH evaluations.
  • Develop and run CFD models (STAR‑CCM+, ANSYS Fluent/CFX, OpenFOAM) for component‑level flow distribution, mixing, thermal stratification, and heat‑transfer characterization.
  • Define thermal‑hydraulic boundary conditions for structural and safety analyses and reconcile system‑level results with CFD outputs.
  • Specify and verify heat exchangers, steam generators, and related equipment per TEMA, HEI, and ASME standards.
  • Assess flow‑induced vibration, acoustic resonance, and erosion‑corrosion risks following ASME OM and EPRI guidelines.
  • Support pressure‑boundary and component design teams with hydraulic and thermal loads for ASME Section III stress and fatigue evaluations.
  • Develop and review P&IDs, flow diagrams, system descriptions, and operating procedures; conduct peer reviews and QA documentation per ASME NQA‑1.
  • Mentor junior engineers and serve as the technical point of contact for fluid‑system engineering.

Required profile

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Extensive experience with fluid‑system design and thermal‑hydraulic analysis in high‑performance or nuclear environments.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASME, TEMA, HEI, EPRI).

Required skills

  • STAR‑CCM+
  • ANSYS Fluent
  • ANSYS CFX
  • OpenFOAM
  • CFD analysis
  • Hydraulic loss calculations
  • Water‑hammer / pressure transient analysis
  • NPSH evaluation
  • Heat‑exchanger design per ASME/TEMA standards
