Senior Field Service Technician – Controls (AMS)

About the role

The Senior Field Service Technician – Controls (AMS) is responsible for the startup, commissioning, and advanced maintenance of Caterpillar 3600 series engines and related control systems. The role requires independent execution of installations, diagnostics, and training of junior technicians in field environments.

Key responsibilities

• Represent Enerflex professionally and provide outstanding customer service.
• Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, submit accurate field service reports, expense reports, and timesheets.
• Direct, coordinate, and execute job activities to meet project goals.
• Lead installations, start‑ups, and commissioning inspections of new units without supervision.
• Diagnose system and component failures efficiently and respond to emergency service calls.
• Travel domestically and internationally on short notice, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Procure materials for optimal job planning and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• 10+ years of commissioning/start‑up, overhaul, troubleshooting, and emissions experience on major OEMs (CAT/Waukesha).
• 5+ years as a Caterpillar 3600 Master Mechanic with valid CAT/Waukesha certifications (e.g., CAT Gas I, CAT Electrical, CAT 3600 Master Mechanic).
• Ability to pass pre‑employment drug screen, background check, and post‑offer physical testing.
• Valid driver’s license and own tools of the trade.
• Ability to work independently, lead junior technicians, and act as supervisor in their absence.

Required skills

• CAT Gas I, CAT Gas II, CAT Electrical, Ariel Basic, Ariel Mechanical.
• CAT 3500 ADEM III, CAT 3500 ULB, Waukesha VHP, CAT 3600 ADEM III, CAT 3600 Master Mechanic, CAT Failure Analysis, Waukesha 9390 certifications.
• PLC programming (Allen Bradley) and micro‑processor diagnostics.
• Mechanical inspection tools: micrometers, pressure gauges, dial indicators, laser alignment tools, digital multimeter.
• Reading and interpreting schematics, P&ID, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Compressor control tuning and coupling alignment techniques.
