Senior Caseworker – Home Study & Post‑Release Services

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Senior Caseworker to lead Home Study and Post‑Release Services for unaccompanied children in the United States. This short‑term position (up to 36 months) supports the assessment of sponsor safety and provides ongoing case management to ensure children’s wellbeing after release from custody.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct initial in‑home assessments with children and sponsors, followed by regular weekly or monthly contacts for up to six months or until the child turns 18 or obtains legal relief.
• Perform mandatory in‑person visits at 14, 90, and 180 days to verify safety and address protection concerns.
• Develop individualized, trauma‑informed service plans that outline strengths‑based interventions and resource referrals.
• Provide psycho‑education, create safety plans when needed, and continuously monitor child wellbeing.
• Link families to community‑based services and document all case activities in accordance with IRC standards.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable children and families, preferably in a humanitarian or child welfare setting.
• Strong knowledge of safety assessment, case planning, and post‑release support processes.
• Ability to travel for home visits and conduct remote follow‑ups.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Commitment to a short‑term contract ending September 30 2026, with no eligibility for benefits.
