Senior Backend Software Engineer

About the role

Seasats builds unmanned surface vessels that stream telemetry and mission data back to shore for months at a time. As a Senior Backend Software Engineer you will design, build, and own the services that ingest, process, and store this real‑time and historical data at fleet scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services for real‑time telemetry ingestion, processing, and storage.
• Architect low‑latency APIs (REST, WebSocket, MQTT) that expose vehicle and mission data to internal tools and customer dashboards.
• Develop data models and storage strategies for high‑volume time‑series and geospatial data.
• Improve scalability, observability, and reliability of existing services as fleet size grows.
• Collaborate with vehicle software and UI teams to integrate new data sources and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• 8+ years of professional backend engineering experience with a track record of designing and scaling production systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Go, or a comparable backend language.
• Deep knowledge of security principles, REST/streaming APIs, and relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred).
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, distributed systems concepts, and handling unreliable networks.
• Proven ability to independently scope and lead backend projects and communicate technically.
