Senior Backend Engineer – Backend Platform (Remote, USA)

About the role

As a member of the Backend Platforms team you will build the foundational services that other engineers use to ship product features. The team also owns the AI development platform, including cloud‑based dev environments and automated code‑review tooling. This is a new, senior‑level team where you will have strong influence over its direction.

Key responsibilities

• Expand DevDawg and Spice, the cloud development environments and AI‑driven review tools.
• Design and implement the core API plumbing – authentication, permissions, rate‑limiting, and schema standards.
• Modernize the backend framework stack, migrating from Flask to FastAPI and establishing clear migration paths.
• Own observability, metrics, alerting and readiness standards for production services.
• Ship shared backend primitives such as eventing patterns, database migration guardrails, and internal admin APIs.
• Define guardrails for coding agents, including static analysis, linting, and test harnesses.

Required profile

• Seasoned Python engineer who can set architectural patterns.
• Experience shipping AI‑native, LLM‑backed features to real users.
• Deep familiarity with observability, telemetry, and production‑ready practices.
• Strong opinionated API design experience for public‑facing services.
• Proven track record debugging high‑impact incidents and carrying on‑call responsibilities.
• Builder mindset – prefer shipping a rough V1 to lengthy abstractions.
• Enjoy working directly with internal customers and iterating quickly.
