Senior AV Specialist

About the role

The Senior AV Specialist provides advanced technical expertise, support, and leadership for audio‑visual systems across the University of Maryland campus. This role serves as the subject‑matter expert for AV technologies, collaborating with faculty, staff, and external vendors to enable instruction, events, and institutional initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advanced technical support for complex live and hybrid events, including video conferencing, recording, streaming, and sound reinforcement.
• Lead AV projects, coordinate with internal departments, vendors, and contractors, and maintain documentation for system configurations, SOPs, and support workflows.
• Evaluate, test, and recommend new AV technologies to enhance instructional and institutional delivery.
• Train and mentor AV team members and student workers on equipment use and troubleshooting.
• Maintain inventory, schedule maintenance and upgrades, and ensure AV systems comply with accessibility standards and institutional policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum five (5) years of audio‑visual programming experience.
• Ability to lift 10 lb.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of Crestron technology and programming.
• Experience with Q‑SYS hardware and programming.
• Proficiency in laptop/desktop/projection connectivity, video conferencing, and teleconferencing.
• Design application skills (Visio, CAD, etc.).
• Knowledge of audio‑visual technology, room design best practices, and studio/live broadcast system technology.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
