Senior Automation and Controls Engineer

About the role

Radiant, a startup developing portable nuclear microreactors, is looking for a senior automation and controls engineer to lead the design and implementation of automated production and test equipment for high‑volume manufacturing of its microreactor technology.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and manage automation projects, from concept through commissioning, quality studies and hand‑off to operations.
• Architect, write and debug PLC code that is organized, documented, maintainable and reusable for mass production.
• Implement ANSI/RIA R15.06 and OSHA‑compliant safety systems for robots, gantries, conveyors and other equipment.
• Design electrical systems meeting NEC, NFPA and UL508A standards.
• Select and size electromechanical components such as servo motors and controllers.
• Oversee electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, pneumatic and fluid plumbing.
• Create clear HMI screens to simplify operation and troubleshooting of complex machines.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics or computer science.
• 4+ years experience designing and commissioning automation and controls systems for industrial applications.

Required skills

• PLC programming (Beckhoff TwinCat 3 preferred).
• HMI/SCADA development (Inductive Automation Ignition).
• Electrical schematic CAD using Zuken E3.
• Programming languages: C#.NET, Python, SQL.
• Robot and PLC simulation experience.
• Robotic welding platforms (Kuka, ABB, Fanuc).
• Field‑bus, serial communication and Ethernet networking.
