Senior AI Engineer – Conversational Voice & Agentic Systems

About the role

Blooming Health is seeking a senior AI engineer to lead the design and delivery of real‑time conversational voice experiences. You will work on the core voice AI platform that powers patient‑centric interactions, integrating speech recognition, large language models and orchestration layers. The role reports to the Director of AI Engineering and collaborates closely with product and engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain voice AI systems for real‑time, conversational user experiences.
• Build and evolve AI orchestration layers, including agent workflows, state management and system handoffs.
• Architect end‑to‑end pipelines that combine speech‑to‑text, LLM reasoning, tool calling and text‑to‑speech.
• Address latency, interruptions, barge‑in, turn‑taking and other voice‑specific challenges.
• Write clean, tested, production‑ready Python code for APIs, services and orchestration components.
• Create data pipelines to capture, transform and surface insights from patient and member interactions.
• Partner with technical leadership to shape the roadmap for voice‑based AI products.

Required profile

• Proven experience shipping voice or real‑time conversational AI systems in production.
• Deep understanding of speech‑to‑text, text‑to‑speech, telephony or streaming audio pipelines and associated latency constraints.
• Hands‑on experience with LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic) and prompt‑engineering best practices.
• Strong Python development skills, including asynchronous programming (asyncio, httpx).
• Solid background in SQL and PostgreSQL, with experience building ETL pipelines.
