Senior Accountant

About the role

Vulcan Elements is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its corporate accounting function. This early technical hire will support a fast‑growing finance team, handling foreign currency, inventory, fixed assets, and broader accounting activities as the company scales.

Key responsibilities

• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation under U.S. GAAP.
• Manage accounts payable tasks such as invoice review, coding, and three‑way matching.
• Maintain inventory roll‑forward to the general ledger, reconcile purchases, consumption, scrap, and ending balances.
• Analyze inventory variances and recommend corrective actions or reserve adjustments.
• Oversee the fixed‑asset subledger, including asset setup, depreciation, useful lives, and disposals.
• Maintain construction‑in‑progress accounting for capital projects, including capitalization and placed‑in‑service determinations.
• Support foreign‑currency accounting per ASC 830, including functional‑currency assessments, translation, remeasurement, and FX gain/loss analysis.
• Assist with multi‑entity consolidation, intercompany eliminations, and consolidating entries.
• Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and other compliance requests.
• Help implement new accounting policies, standards, and guidelines.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of accounting/finance experience; public‑accounting background a plus.
• Experience with inventory and fixed‑asset accounting, preferably in manufacturing or other capital‑intensive environments.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, especially ASC 330, ASC 360, and ASC 830.
• Proficiency with accounting systems such as NetSuite, Ramp, or similar, and reporting/consolidation platforms like Workiva.
• Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets and reconciliations.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet compliance‑related reporting deadlines.
