Section Head, Pediatric Anesthesiology

About the role

Ochsner Children’s Hospital is seeking an experienced physician leader to serve as Section Head for Pediatric Anesthesiology. The role will guide a team of seven faculty members, support a full spectrum of pediatric anesthetic care, and help launch the new freestanding children’s hospital slated for 2028.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visionary leadership and accountability for the performance of the pediatric anesthesiology section.
• Recruit, assess, and mentor faculty, overseeing compensation and feedback processes.
• Foster collaboration with surgical specialists and ensure patient‑centered care across all subspecialties.
• Navigate interdepartmental negotiations, conflict resolution, and effective communication with other sites.
• Address performance issues with physicians through clear expectations, documentation, and feedback.
• Understand healthcare finance, coding, and billing cycles to support profitable operations.
• Develop and execute project plans aligned with Ochsner’s system strategy.
• Contribute to academic activities, research initiatives, and upcoming pediatric anesthesiology fellowship accreditation.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Anesthesiology (MD or DO) with an active medical license.
• Proven leadership experience managing clinical teams and academic programs.
• Strong record of patient‑centered collaboration with surgical specialties.
• Interest in academic medicine, research, and fellowship development.
• Commitment to professionalism, teamwork, and high standards of clinical care.
