Seasonal Parks Maintenance Laborer (2026)

About the role

This seasonal, part‑time position supports the Parks & Recreation Department by maintaining park shelters, playgrounds, trails, cemeteries, prairies and related facilities throughout spring and summer 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning, painting, mulching, weeding, mowing, trimming, power washing and event set‑up.
• Operate and maintain equipment including mowers, sprayers, leaf mulchers, trucks and other motor vehicles.
• Assist with snow shoveling, snow blowing and occasional snow removal as needed.
• Carry out general upkeep of city facilities like the cemetery, City Hall and the Library.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent (10th‑grade completion required).
• Valid Iowa Operator’s License.
• Physical ability to lift up to 75 lb, work outdoors in varying weather, and navigate uneven terrain.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work safely with equipment.

Required skills

• Operation of mowers, sprayers and leaf mulchers.
• Truck driving and basic vehicle maintenance.
• Basic knowledge of safety precautions for occupational hazards.
