School Resource Officer – Dekalb RYDC (Decatur, GA)

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a School Resource Officer to provide law‑enforcement support and safety oversight at the Dekalb RYDC facility in Decatur. Working under supervision, you will help maintain a secure educational environment for youth in detention.

Key responsibilities

• Perform all law‑enforcement duties in a professional manner consistent with agency policies.
• Control security clearance for students entering and leaving secure areas, including bathroom and lunch breaks.
• Conduct regular walkthroughs of classrooms, hallways, and offices.
• Address disruptive behavior, dress code violations, tardiness, and absenteeism.
• Facilitate safety drills as required by the Georgia Preparatory Academy.
• Inspect areas for contraband or safety breaches after each movement.
• Monitor security cameras and report equipment issues promptly.
• Collaborate with supervisors, education staff, and support personnel to increase student involvement.
• Assist in planning weekly student success meetings and monthly parent meetings.
• Lead group discussions on law‑enforcement topics when requested.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Successful completion of Georgia POST Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Training.
• Current GAPOST professional profile with PBLE number.
