School Resource Officer – Augusta YDC

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a dedicated School Resource Officer to provide law‑enforcement support and maintain a safe environment at the Augusta Youth Detention Center (YDC). This position works under supervision to ensure security, order, and student well‑being in an educational detention setting.

Key responsibilities

• Perform all law‑enforcement duties in accordance with established procedures.
• Provide security clearance for students entering and exiting secure areas, including bathroom and lunch breaks.
• Conduct regular walkthroughs of classrooms, hallways, and offices.
• Address disruptive behavior, dress code violations, tardiness, and absenteeism.
• Facilitate safety drills as required by the Georgia Preparatory Academy.
• Inspect areas for contraband or safety breaches after each movement.
• Monitor security equipment and camera systems, reporting issues promptly.
• Collaborate with supervisors, education staff, and support staff to increase student involvement.
• Assist in planning weekly student success meetings and monthly parent meetings.
• Lead group discussions on law‑enforcement topics as requested.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED and successful completion of Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Training.
• Preference for an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Sociology, or a related field.
• At least one year of experience as a School Resource Officer.
• Three years of experience as a Peace Officer with current certification from the Georgia POST Council.
• Two or more years of supervisory experience in police or investigative work.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, kneeling, bending, and crawling for extended periods.
