Sales Engineer – Technical Pre‑Sales (San Francisco)

The opportunity

dcbel is hiring technical sales engineers to support its sales team with product demonstrations, webinars, and technical pre‑sales activities for existing and prospective B2B partners.

Key requirements

• 7–10+ years of experience in a technical, product‑focused pre‑sales or applications engineering role in the energy industry.
• Direct experience with distributed energy resources such as solar, storage, EV charging, and V2X.
• Field experience in commissioning, installation oversight, site troubleshooting, or utility pilot deployments.
• Solid working knowledge of power electronics, including inverters and bidirectional DC/DC and DC/AC conversion.
• Knowledge of EV charging communication protocols (ISO 15118) and DER integration protocols (IEEE 2030.5, OpenADR).
• Familiarity with IoT and site‑level communication protocols (MQTT, Modbus TCP/RTU, SunSpec, Zigbee/Matter).
• Ability to work with logs, packet captures, API documentation and set up lab/field test environments.

Profile

• Strong presenter able to run partner presentations, technical webinars and live product demos.
• Capable of tailoring technical pitches for audiences ranging from utility program managers to installers.
• Self‑directed, acting as the sole technical voice in customer conversations.
• Willingness to travel 25%+ across the United States.
