About the role
The Rule of Law Intern will support the substantive work of the Justice and Corrections Service (JCS) within the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs. This unpaid, full‑time internship (35 hours/week) is based at the UN premises in New York, with flexibility for part‑time or remote arrangements.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with implementation of justice and corrections projects, including research, analysis, and drafting case studies or background papers.
- Provide administrative support for meetings with internal and external partners, preparing agendas, briefing papers, and summary notes.
- Contribute to policy and guidance development by researching legal, judicial, and correctional reform issues.
- Conduct research on current developments related to JCS work, both globally and in assigned country settings.
- Support desk officers with research and related tasks for specific peace operations.
Required profile
- Ability to conduct research and analysis on justice, corrections, and rule‑of‑law topics.
- Strong written communication skills for drafting papers, briefing notes, and meeting materials.
- Availability to work full‑time (35 hours/week) on‑site in New York, with possible part‑time or remote adjustments.
