Root Cause Analysis Engineer

About the role

As a Root Cause Analysis Engineer at 3M, you will join a global network of curious and creative professionals to investigate product defects and production challenges. You will work in an on‑site analytical laboratory, applying scientific methods to uncover the underlying causes of issues and drive continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify, evaluate, and prioritize analytical opportunities.
• Deploy, develop, and maintain analytical labs and instrumentation.
• Lead studies, develop, and validate physical and analytical test methods.
• Operate instruments such as GC, MS, FTIR, DSC, DMA, TGA, and rheometers.
• Conduct raw material, in‑process, and final product testing.
• Present findings to the 3M technical community.
• Apply Lean Six Sigma principles to improve lab workflow, standard work, and test methods.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline.
• At least five years of laboratory experience in a private, public, government, or military setting.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment is advantageous.
• Proven ability to analyze problems, diagnose root causes, and implement corrective actions.
