Rolling Mill Operator

About the role

The Rolling Mill Operator reports to the Roll Shop Supervisor and is responsible for setting up and operating CNC equipment to machine new and used rolls to final dimensions and contours for production.

Key responsibilities

• Plan work procedures from instructions, prints, computer programs and work orders.
• Set up and operate CNC lathe, milling machine and EDM to turn, cut and finish rolls within tight tolerances.
• Select and adjust cutting tools, speeds and feeds based on material hardness and required surface finish.
• Inspect rolled parts using protractors, calipers, micrometers, gauges and templates, and make manual overrides when necessary.
• Maintain and lubricate equipment, and follow all PPE and safety guidelines.

Required profile

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Physical ability to lift up to 70 lb, work in extreme temperatures, stand, climb ladders and work rotating shifts.
• Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Required skills

• Operation of CNC lathe equipment.
• Use of milling machines and electric discharge machines (EDM).
• Proficiency with measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, protractors and thickness gauges.
• Interpretation of technical drawings, prints and computer programs.
