Roadway Engineer (Technical Lead)

About the role

RDA is looking for a motivated Roadway Engineer to lead technical design work on Virginia transportation projects while mentoring junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Develop roadway designs, plan sets, and supporting documentation for VDOT and local agency projects.
• Prepare engineering calculations, cost estimates, and construction documents that meet industry standards.
• Collaborate with engineers, planners, clients, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
• Support project delivery activities and grow into broader technical and project responsibilities.
• Help strengthen RDA’s mentoring capacity as the office expands.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or a related field.
• 4–6 years of experience in transportation or roadway engineering.
• Virginia PE license or EIT with ability to obtain PE within one year.
• Familiarity with VDOT standards and project delivery processes preferred.
• Experience with OpenRoads Designer and/or MicroStation.
• Strong communication, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills.
• Interest in mentoring and developing junior staff.
