RN First Assist – Operating Room

About the role

Ochsner Health is seeking a Registered Nurse First Assist to support surgeons in the operating room on Jefferson Highway. The RNFA works under direct supervision of the surgeon, performing circulator or scrub duties to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect patient care during surgical procedures.
• Communicate with the surgeon regarding special needs and assist throughout the operation.
• Adapt communication and behavior to respect patient privacy and specific patient populations.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary team members and ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards.
• Perform additional related duties as required, including travel between facilities.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years operating room experience and successful completion of an RNFA program.
• Current RN license in the state of practice and Basic Life Support certification.
• Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on‑call availability.
