Residential/Combination Building Inspector

About the role

We are seeking an immediate hire for a Residential/Combination Building Inspector in Athens, GA. Reporting to the Area Inspection Manager, you will conduct daily inspections on residential and commercial construction projects and related assignments.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled inspections Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑5:00 pm, ensuring safety and compliance with private and public property standards.
• Maintain detailed inspection records, reports, and compliance cases, and update files, answer calls, and schedule future inspections.
• Communicate effectively with staff, citizens, builders, and contractors, providing assistance to client staff and team members as needed.
• Keep ICC certifications current, pursue additional certifications, attend training, and stay current on codes and standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in building inspection, structural engineering, or related field preferred.
• Minimum three years residential construction inspection experience, with at least one year focused on erosion and sediment control inspections.
• Required ICC Residential Combination Inspector certification; ICC Commercial Inspector Combination and GSWCC Level IB preferred.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of municipal building codes, inspection methods, construction materials, and erosion‑sedimentation control regulations.
• Proficiency with work‑related technology such as laptops, tablets, iPhones, and Microsoft Word and Excel.
