Research Associate (Economic Research)

About the role

The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis is seeking motivated Research Associates to support its economic research program. This two‑year, at‑will position offers hands‑on experience with leading economists, visiting scholars, and policy analysts.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct statistical, econometric, and computational research for academic publication.
• Analyze and interpret economic and financial data using Excel and advanced statistical software.
• Collect, organize, and summarize data for the Beige Book and other policy reports.
• Review academic journals, market sources, and government publications.
• Assist economists in drafting short articles, presentations, and policy briefs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in economics, econometrics, or quantitative economics.
• GPA of 3.5 or higher.
• Strong background in mathematics and statistics (Calculus II, Econometrics, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations).
• Previous research experience such as undergraduate assistantship or related internship.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Excel.
• Experience using statistical packages: Stata, R, Matlab, Julia, Python, SAS.
