Registered Nurse – Acute Medical Stepdown Unit (Night Shift)

About the role

Ochsner Health seeks a dedicated Registered Nurse to join the Acute Medical Stepdown Unit on the Jeff Highway campus. The role involves delivering patient‑centered care during night shifts while adhering to the Nursing Process, the Nurse Practice Act, and Ochsner’s nursing philosophy. You will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Utilize the Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Delegate, direct, and assist licensed and ancillary team members while maintaining accountability for quality outcomes.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team, adapting explanations to diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.
• Analyze data and apply evidence‑based practices to promote continuous improvement and patient safety.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards, and report any ethical concerns promptly.

Required profile

• Education: Registered Nurse diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
• Experience: No prior experience required.
• Certifications: Active RN license in the state of practice and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Preferred: Certification in a clinical specialty area.
• Knowledge: Ability to perform data entry, retrieve information, and use Windows‑style applications and related software.

• Effective verbal and written communication for clear presentation of information.
