About the role

The Rapid Response Respiratory Therapist provides critical respiratory care, oxygen therapy, diagnostic testing and ventilation support to patients of all ages during night shifts at Ochsner Health.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing and ventilation support to in‑patients and out‑patients of all ages.
  • Monitor and wean patients from oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation, draw and analyze arterial blood gases, and perform intermittent therapy.
  • Assist with changing artificial airways and provide services as ordered by physicians.

Required profile

  • Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Current state license as a Respiratory Therapist and certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Basic Life Support certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support to be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Required skills

  • Computer data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and keyboard use.
