Quantum Technician – Maryland Quantum NEXUS Program

About the role

The Maryland Quantum NEXUS program, part of the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence & Security (ARLIS) at the University of Maryland, is recruiting early‑career technicians to support quantum hardware operations. Participants will gain hands‑on experience with a variety of qubit platforms, including neutral‑atom, superconducting, semiconducting, and topological systems.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, tear down, and reconfigure quantum laboratory equipment.
• Calibrate instruments, run experiments, and evaluate measurement results.
• Maintain and troubleshoot hardware and software components of quantum systems.
• Collaborate with mentors and multidisciplinary teams to ensure reliable system performance.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree or relevant professional experience in a technical field.
• Eligibility for U.S. security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
• Strong interest in quantum technologies and hands‑on laboratory work.

Required skills

• Experience with laboratory instrumentation and hardware assembly.
• Basic proficiency in software tools used for instrument control.
• Ability to follow detailed technical procedures and documentation.
