Quality Control Specialist – Water Utility

About the role

The City of Fort Worth Water Utility is seeking a Quality Control Specialist to support its Centralized Water Laboratory. This full‑time position ensures accurate, responsive, and cost‑effective analytical services for water, wastewater, pretreatment, and environmental testing across the community.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, prepare, and monitor the quality control and assurance plan for all testing activities.
• Participate in internal and external audits, corrective and preventive actions, and ensure compliance with TCEQ and TNI standards.
• Communicate test results and sampling data to internal and external customers while maintaining accurate records.
• Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manage controlled laboratory documents.
• Investigate water quality issues in reservoirs, treatment plants, and distribution systems and assist in resolving compliance problems.
• Estimate funding needs for quality control activities and coordinate procurement and calibration of monitoring equipment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
• At least three years of experience in laboratory quality control/assurance, preferably with water or wastewater.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a drug screen.
• Preferred: experience with TNI or TCEQ accreditation, ISO/IEC 17025, and knowledge of Safe Drinking Water Act or Clean Water Act.
