Public Information Intern – Chinese News Writing & Reporting

About the role
This unpaid internship is based in the Chinese Unit of the News Section II, within the United Nations Department of Global Communications. It offers hands‑on experience in a multilingual UN newsroom, focusing on producing news, feature stories, short‑form videos and multimedia content for Chinese‑speaking audiences.
Key responsibilities
- Draft Chinese news articles by integrating and translating information from UN reports, press releases, statements and resolutions.
- Translate English video scripts, captions and other editorial material into Chinese.
- Proofread and fact‑check Chinese‑language content before publication.
- Conduct background research and support editorial planning.
- Assist in the production of videos, social‑media content and multimedia storytelling projects.
- Conduct interviews, support field reporting assignments, and film/edit short‑form videos for social platforms.
- Participate in editorial meetings, contribute story ideas and support audience‑engagement activities.
Required profile
- Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme (or final year of a bachelor’s programme) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English or translation studies.
- Computer literate with standard office software.
- Fluent in Chinese and English, with strong writing and translation abilities.
- Ability to work full‑time (35 hours/week) on‑site in New York, with flexibility for part‑time or remote arrangements if needed.
