Public Health Registered Nurse (Level 1-3)

About the role

Join the State of Georgia’s public health team as a Registered Nurse providing essential community health services, including immunizations and health assessments. This full‑time position offers a stable schedule with most evenings and weekends off.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver professional nursing care following established protocols, focusing on immunizations for all ages.
• Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including genital examinations when required.
• Collect specimens, perform lab tests (e.g., pregnancy tests) and microscopic evaluations.
• Obtain health histories, provide education, administer medications and vaccinations.
• Participate in home visits, health fairs, committee work, and public presentations.
• Respond to public health emergencies and ensure exceptional customer service while maintaining HIPAA standards.
• Maintain current CPR certification.

Required profile

• Associate degree in nursing from an accredited program.
• Completion of a Public Health Nursing (PHN) course within one year of hire.
• Current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license and CPR certification.
• Ability to lift up to 45 lb occasionally.
• Preferred: prior experience with a state Department of Public Health or County Board of Health, Bachelor’s degree in nursing, baccalaureate health assessment coursework, and experience performing physical exams on both males and females.
